How does the Guardian Programme work?

Our guardian programme is designed to give our gorgeous breeding dogs the best life possible.

In order to breed the highest quality, well socialised and happy dogs, we also need to keep adding to our genetic pool.

Our guardian programme allows our carefully chosen and DNA tested breeding dogs to live as part of a family. Guardian dogs are available to people living in Bathurst or the Syndey Hills area.

Our Dogs & Puppies

Our guardian dogs are DNA tested for common diseases and we also take things like knees and elbows, temperament and overall health into account when we choose our guardian dogs.

When you receive a guardian dog from us, they are healthy, happy, vaccinated, microchipped, worm and flea treated.

Our guardian dogs will have basic obedience and toilet training and also have been exposed to a variety of noises, people and situations.

We have a small number of dogs that live with us either full time or temporarily. Some of our dogs are for breeding and some are pets or have other purposes like being “aunties” to puppies or helping with puppy socialisation.

At Rockley Valley Park we follow a programme called Puppy Culture that is a proven programme that we use not only for puppies but for all of our dogs ensuring happy confident puppies.

Raising puppies is more than just providing a clean environment and food.

A puppy’s first 8-12 weeks are a critical period for shaping future behaviour and preventing problems. Early neurological stimulation, socialisation, toilet training and training all play part in this.

Your Responsibility

Being a guardian dog owner brings with it a little bit more responsibility than being a normal dog owner.

You will be responsible for food, vaccinations, parasite control, general vet care and getting your dog to Rockley Valley Park (20 min outside Bathurst) for breeding and mating.

You will need to sign a legally binding contract, which is for the protection of all parties involved.

We want our guardian dog to be part of your family but for the life of the contract, there will be some restrictions and recommendations we ask you to adhere to. We will explain each point below and if you have any questions, please feel free to have a chat with us.

Our Responsibility

We ensure all our Guardian dogs are DNA tested and clear of common diseases found in their particular breed, like PRA, Congenital Macrothrombocytopenia, Degenerative Myelopathy, Episodic Falling Syndrome, Elliptocytosis B-spectrin, Mucopolysaccharidosis VI and Neonatal Encephalopathy.

We cover the cost of registration and initial vaccinations and all breeding related health checks.

Our dogs are only bred once a vet clearance has been given.

Our Guardian dogs will be giving birth in our state of the art whelping hospital that has been purpose-built after years of research. They will have round the clock care while they are there and our Guardian dogs whelp fully supervised by our senior staff. While your dog is in our care for mating or breeding, we will treat them as our own. We will play with them and cuddle them, and they will be taken for walks and have fun with other dogs. We also offer onsite boarding for our Guardian dogs.

Every one of our puppies goes to their new home vaccinated, microchipped and desexed. We offer a genetic health guarantee on all of our puppies and also lifetime rehoming if for whatever reason the new owner's circumstance should change. All of our puppies are also guaranteed to be free of common genetic diseases.

Grooming

Grooming

Cavoodles are generally low shedding, which means you won’t see much coat left on your furniture, floor or clothes BUT it also means you will need to regularly groom your cavoodles coat, as the coat keeps growing and doesn’t fall out. Your
cavoodle will require regular grooming every 6-8 weeks depending on coat type and also daily brushing.

Restrictions

We are extremely vigilant with keeping our dogs and puppies healthy, therefore there are a couple of things you won’t be able to do with your dog while they are a guardian.

Our dogs are not allowed to be taken to dog parks or to boarding kennels as both pose a high disease risk.

We offer boarding at Rockley Valley Park.

Restrictions

Breeding

Once your puppy is over 1 year old and has had her second season, she will be matched with a suitable boy and you will be required to take her to one of our partner vets for a pre-mating check and then also take her to Rockley Valley Park for mating (usually 7-10 days before she is ready to come back) she will live with you for the next 7 weeks and will need to be back at Rockley Valley 10 days before her due date.

She will stay with her puppies till they are 7 weeks old, where she will have a health check and be ready to be picked up again.

We will breed her a maximum of 3 times

At the end of your contract

We will advise you once you have completed your contract with us and we will organise to get your dog desexed at our cost.
Once this has been done, ownership will be transferred to you and our guardian dog will become yours forever.

We have a limited number of puppies and occasionally older dogs available for guardianship. If you are interested in joining our waitlist, please apply below and one of our friendly staff will be in contact.
